10 Years Artvark

In 2014 we celebrated 10 Years of Artvark with a tour playing the best of Artvark Only, and having some musical encounters with very special guests: actor Kasper van Kooten, choreographer Sanne van der Put & Dancers, photographer and filmmaker Lenny Oosterwijk & his film 'Heraclitus' and flamenco guitar player Eric Vaarzon Morel. Next to that we play some concerts around the 200th birthday of Adolphe Sax - the inventor of the saxophone - like the Sax Festival Enschede and a chamber concert @ Amsterdam Winds.

Being part of Asko|Schönberg at the Festival Sax14 in Muziekgebouw a/h IJ in Amsterdam is defenitely also one of the highlights. We will play 'De Stijl' by Louis Andriessen, 'Clash of Cultures' by Peter van Onna with Aurelia Saxofoon Kwartet and several 'solo' performances. In Bijloke Gent (B) there will be a reprise of 'De Stijl' with Asko|Schönberg and the 'solo' performances by Artvark, material from our latest CD Bluestories, and a new piece we wrote: a piece inspired by Facing Death of Louis Andriessen: Improvisation on themes from facing death.

Our very first live performance was at the Jazz Festival Amersfoort (NL) in 2004 in Museum Flehite and our first CD was released a year later in 2005: 'Artvark, the Jazz Saxophone Quartet'. How time flies and what a great bunch of beautiful memories we have collected over the years + 5 CD's & 1 EP with original music. Still we feel we just started the quartet, are planning new (inter)national projects in the near future. Check the website and Artvark FB to stay informed.
